You will have 1 ½ hours to complete this examination paper. It is expected that you will have prepared answers and ideas in advance.
Burnmill Newspapers is seeking to launch a newspaper aimed at 13-19 year olds. Although populist it will set out to be informative and serious in most of its news provision, reflecting our core values of respecting all members of society. The publishers are keen to receive your ideas for how best to create this new product. To help them you should complete the tasks below.
Task 1
Design a front cover. You should:
- decide on a title for the newspaper
- sketch the layout of the front page, to include all appropriate design features (titles, subheadings, colours and so on)
- explain what sort of stories you think a popular newspaper with broad appeal could effectively feature on the front page
- similarly, what photography could be used
Task 2
Evaluate each aspect of what you have produced for question 1, explaining how your front cover ideas would attract and satisfy the intended target audience.
